I am a professor at the department of bioinfomatics, Soongsil University, Seoul, Korea.

Before joining Soongsil in 2005, I worked as a research sicentist at LG Biotech Research Institute for 11 years and at Korea Research Institute of Biosicence & Biotechnology (KRIBB)  for 5 years.

Now I have experienced all three sectors: industry, national lab, and academia, kind of unique qualification!  People normally ask me how each one is different from the others.  I answer each one has its own pros and cons.

Other Appointments

I am also an Invited Research at KRIBB and collaborating with Korea Biological Resource Information Management Center (KOBIC), formerly, National Genome Information Center (NGIC), Daejon.

I also serve as Managing Director of eIMBL (electronic International Molecular Biology Laboratory), an effort to create a cyber space laboratory within Asia-Pacific region in the area of life science and biotechnology.

Recently, our department has been awarded by the BK21 program funded by the Korean Ministry of Education.  The name of the team is BT-IT Integrationist Program.  I serve as the leader of the team.
